Six Serpents

This piece was one of my first attempts at making a really complicated yet relatively small piece -the photo shows it's actual size. The intricately executed design taken from the Book of Kells, the meaning associated with serpents in this case is that of Wisdom, as in "Be ye as cunning as serpents, and innocent as lambs".The serpent here is also associated with the immortality of the soul because of the snake's ability to slough its skin annually and be reborn.
